Security DNS Filtering for AERO Vodochody AEROSPACE – Case Study

Security of the internal network is one of the main priorities of the company AERO Vodochody AEROSPACE, which is why they continuously seek technologies that can improve it.

This is the reason why the company decided to implement Whalebone Immunity.

AERO Vodochody—a leading manufacturer of training jet airplanes—sought to protect a diverse range of endpoint devices without requiring a complicated configuration process. The primary requirement was that the implementation must not disrupt their existing IT infrastructure, particularly the Active Directory, which relies on DNS.

To ensure this, AERO first used Whalebone’s cloud DNS resolvers for testing without deploying server components internally. However, they later opted for an on-premises solution, with three independent DNS resolvers located on the corporate network to ensure high availability of DNS traffic.

The deployment involved setting up three Linux servers on their network. Using a script generated by the Whalebone web console, the installation was streamlined to include all necessary checks and dependencies. Once the DNS resolvers were operational, forwarding to the Domain Controllers was configured without any downtime or user impact.

Solution: Smooth Implementation and Advanced Protection

After thorough testing—including validating Active Directory functionality—test clients were redirected to the new DNS resolvers using DHCP. The entire implementation process was completed seamlessly, without any network outages or disruptions for users.

Whalebone’s DNS traffic protection policies were configured to block the maximum number of threats with minimal administrative intervention. Despite the strict policies, false positives were not encountered, demonstrating the system’s precision.

The implementation of the trial and full solution went smoothly, and the results have exceeded our expectations.

Result: Quantifiable Improvements in Network Security

The full implementation of Whalebone Immunity demonstrated immediate results. Whalebone’s technology detected and blocked suspicious software on multiple devices, including those managed by external contractors. The administrators informed the contractor, who promptly resolved the issue. This proactive approach ensures daily minor threats are mitigated without requiring additional admin intervention.

Key outcomes include:

  • Successful Testing: The rigorous evaluation proved Whalebone’s compatibility with AERO’s existing infrastructure.

  • Quick and Smooth Deployment: Minimal disruption and a straightforward setup process ensured seamless integration.

  • Quantifiable Results: Lower-than-average incident rates, with continuous detection and mitigation of threats.

AERO Vodochody now enjoys a robust security layer that protects their internal network and ensures uninterrupted operations. As the world’s largest manufacturer of training jet airplanes, their network security is critical to maintaining operational excellence and industry leadership.
